Doing a service yourself

Hi folks,

Wondered if anyone had a write up or there was a post for DIY servicing. I had a search but couldn't see a topic or sticky.

I know there's a lot of guides and check lists online.

I'm keen to do a service myself, maybe not too much in it, filters and an oil/coolant change?

It's maybe more general than model specific so apologies if this should be in a different forum area.

Also do you get your items from a dealer or use a local motor factor/online shop.

Finally how much oil and coolant/antifreeze would be needed for changes?

For info my car is a 2005 Megane II 1.5dCi 80

Hi I'm a Newbie so please be gentle!

I've just had the first new Clutch fitted to my Laguna @117k.

Fearing that the Wheel Alignment might have been affected I took the Laguna to the Tyre Fitters who rigged it up to the Supertracker system.

Unfortunately the Supertracker Measurement Suite does not seem to include my vehicle. So once again I have had to reluctantly settle for the Renault Laguna mk2 1.6 2001>2006 measurements to be set!

I have since contacted Supertracker, in Southampton, who confirmed that my Laguna's details are not included in the Supertacker Database.

Can anyone help me with the correct measurements.


My Laguna has 16" Aries Alloys shod with AVON ZV5 205/55/R16 91V Tyres (in good condition).

crankcase breather valve loction

Hi I have an 02 plate renault laguna 16v petrol auto. i found some oil Inside the box between the throttle body and air filter i have now noticed a puffft sound when I hit the accelorater pedal I've been told to check the crankcase breather valve for a blockage but have no idea where it is can anybody help me many thanks

First post so hello all!

I have a 2005 Renault Scenic II 1.9dCi Dynamiqu. I went to change front wipers and found something very odd. The connectors on the drivers and passengers side arms are different - see the attachments. I got a Bosch set online, and the passengers side blade fits fine. I've never seen a car with different wiper blade connectors, so I can only assume the drivers side arm was changed at some point and the right one wasn't used?

Any ideas?

Removal of old paint Laguna II

Got sick of looking at the old flaking - soft gooey matt paint on the fascia areas, electric window switch areas front and back, air outlet areas and instrument surround so I looked up the Haynes workshop manual and carefully removed the paint from either removed panels or did in situ...Seems to be water soluable paint as Meths removed most of the old crappy rubbery paint ( plastic was a bit whitish after meths but WD 40 on a rag fixed this up). Took quite a while but its OK...Plastic underneath was roughly the same colour as the paint was but of course in a shiny plastic finish...doesn't look so smooth but its better then crappy old damaged paint. Would recommend people to spend a few hours doing this as its a big improvement plus its a hell of a lot more durable. - esp the window switch areas....can't understand why they painted these areas in the fist place....

Hello to everybody. I'm new to this English forum with my aging old car having owned it more than eight years now and not until a month ago did she totally stop firing up.

I have made many actions and put new parts in this old car with no hope: changed gas pump, spark plugs, plug wires, one ignition coil, tdc sensor. Some two or three months earlier I put a new battery and changed the coolant temperature sensor and changed a new alternator and alternator belt. Changeg the oil and plugs already some four months ago.

For some years the car's engine has suffered from a mysterious low temperature level. I have frequently changed the thermostat only to see the temperature drop from the normal center position to the 1/4 position after a month or two.

For some months, maybe after replacing the coolant temp sensor, I have been obliged to try twice or even three times to get the motor start. Before that sensor change I had changed the alternator, so I have been guessing the problem has been with the alternator or bad wiring.

Finally, two weeks ago the car simply refused to start, fortunately at my parking lot. I gave her some electric cable warming the coolant hose heater, and managed to get it start! But it started somewhat faintingly. I waited for some time so that the engine would be warm and drove to get my wife. But the winter night had made the steep uphill street so slippery that I did not manage to go up so I turned to downhill to adjacent supermarket parking area to get enough speed to get uphill. Unfortunately the speed decreased in the same slippery strech of the road and at that same spot the motor stopped. I had to revert back to my parking lot using the brake and handbrake.

After this incident the motor has totally refused to start. But when I give about one hour electric cable heating to the coolant heater, the engine may give a try and very seldomly even fire up for quarter of a second just to immediately go down. So if the car is cold it definitely won't start, while a warmth somewhere makes it make a try.

The starter motor seems to work all right.

I tried to firnd infos in this forum and elsewhere, and electric faults and starting problems seem to be quite a continuous problem type with Renaults. Please, could you give me advice what this fault might be. I wish it would not be ECU...:confused:

Hey iv a 2002 1.6 petrol laguna and the abs light is on and iv connected a g scan computer and it's giving me fault code c1131 eng system 2 can anybody help with this please

hi bought a laguna 1.9 dci 11 days ago 02 reg 70000 mls had it one wk it started to slightly crunch from 2nd to 3rd now it crunches in 2nd 3rd 4th took it back to dealer who gave me 12mths parts and labour warranty but has said i cant make a claim for the first 30 days am i right that if the car isnt in reasonable condition he has to pay him self to re place the gear box by the way is in mint condition and great to drive

Hello there,
I've just had to lock my laguna II 03 plate 1.9dci by getting my daughter to come to my location and she had to sit in the drivers seat and lock the doors by pressing the door lock switch on the centre console. We opened the drivers door window and then quickly removed the key card and she then climbed out through the window and we used the electric window button to close the window as she got out. Car secured at location.
Why??

Answer:
I got into my car, put the key card into the slot and got nothing but continual flashing from the light behind the slot and the red immobiliser light continually flashing faster than when the key card is out of the slot. Key Card won't open or lock the car and the battery is new and in the right way around.
Please can somebody send me an explanation as to the cause and hopefully a solution to the Problem??

Cambelt change interval ?

Hello,

quick question about cambelt change times, i have recently bough a 2000 reg renault laguna 1.9dci and looking at a reciept it had a new cambelt on 6 july 2009 when the car was on 79k, it is now on 108k so only done about 30k since that date and on each mot its only done 6k a year everytime, am i worrying about nothing or will it be time for a cambelt change soonish ?

boost control solenoid

has anyone had trouble with 2011 scenic 1.5 dci not revving over 1500 rpm then cutting out, coming up with po299 dtc "boost control solenoid" engine sounds OK, so don't think its turbo failure, any help would be appreciated, thanks

Clio wiring loom

Hi, I'm a little new to all this forum business so please be patient with me! My husbands Clio has had intermittent electrical problems but the other day decided enough was enough. The dash board lights up like Christmas with every light possible on and that's it, nothing when you turn the key. I checked through a few possible reasons but all seemed ok. Whilst puzzling about it I discovered the worn wiring by the ecu plug. I have been looking through lots of posts regarding the tamper proof box rubbing through the wiring loom so now know it's a common problem. Unfortunately looking at the state of the wires there will be no way of repairing them so have sourced a new wiring loom. I understand that the Ecu may also need replacing but want to try this first. Does anyone have any tips on doing this? I've read about cleaning the contacts etc when swapping looms over, but is there a logical way of actually fitting the loom or is it just a case of patience and perseverance? Or am I biting off way more than I can chew! The Clio is a 1.2 51 plate and if this doesn't work it will be a gonna as it won't be worth spending much more on it.

2010 Scenic III Rear Bulb holders (lower bumper)

One of the bulb holders Reversing Light & Fog Light (Lower Bumper) on my 2010 Scenic has completely fallen appart (contacts are coroded away) and the other one is not too far behind. It's a pretty poor design, vertically mounting bulb holders in an area that is likely to have water ingress, but I digress.

I popped in to my local Renault dealer (Solihull) and was told these are not available seperately, but only as a complete light unit at £50+
This seems rediculous, £100 for 2x bulb holders when I don't need the glass or reflector. :crazy:

Now, I doubt Renault get them complete, and I'd imagine there should be a part number for them, or a similar fit part I could wire in.

Does anyone know if they're used on other Renault's, and a possible part number?

it does not sound funny here but cracks me up in the movie every time.

Renault Megane 2007 follow power loss and brake fail error message

Hi,
I have had my Megane for about 4 years. Twice over the last 2 months I have lost all electronics while driving and had a 'brake fail' error message appear on the screen. The power loss included dash board, AC, power steering and radio. On the first occasion I had the AC on full blast. I turned the car off and then back on, and was able to drive home. I have been driving a fair bit since then and had no problems until y'day. i had only been driving 10 mins and the same thing happened. this time turning the car off and back on and i still only had minimal electronics. Luckily i was only 100 metres from home so I drove home with no power steering or dash board.
Has anyone experienced this before or does any one have any ideas what the problem is?

car horn stopped working

Hi i have a Renault megane 1.5dci estate.
My horn always sounden like a scooter horn (week and crap) but now its stopped working alltogether no click or anything.
I have no idea how to check it..can someone please help

Valeo Alternator

Does anyone know what the purple wire is from the alternator? I'm STILL trying to fix the rev counter. When the purple wire is disconnected, everything still works as it should.
I assume this controls the rev counter?
Any ideas??
