Hi All,
Firstly, i know i have fixed my issue due to the assistance of other threads on here, but they are very old threads and don't really have any clear pictures - so i thought i would create a new one that will hopefully aid someone in the future!
The problem:
I got into my car the other morning ready for work, went to clear the dew from my windscreen and noticed that my wiper arms were moving incredibly slow, then they didnt work at all, after a restart of the car, they would work but only on full speed. I left the car at home and took my partners RAV4, i rang around the dealerships parts departments and the cheapest quote i got for a replacement motor was £267 +VAT - needless to say i almost died! haha
So i scoured the forums here and picking up bits and pieces from various threads, set to about fixing it last night!
The Fix:
I first removed the wiper arms, plastic trim under the windscreen exposing the wiper linkage etc

Next i took out the 6 bolts retaining the linkage / motor etc and unplugged the electrical connector and removed the lot.

Off to the kitchen with the motor and linkage! (Much to my other half's anger!)

Looking under the main plate of the wiper assembly you can see motor/gearbox, you need to remove this freeing the motor/gearbox from the linkage - you can do this without removing it, but i found it much easier! Once its removed you have to remove the black plastic cover that the lead plugs into - both pictured below:

During the removal of the motor - water started pouring (literally) out of it, i soaked all this up and was genuinely surprised that such a small unit could hold so much water - it was soon apparent how the water got inside though. After taking the cover off you can see from the pictures below that the seal had perished thus breaking its water-tight seal and the inside of the motor/gearbox has become someone wet/rusty/and lined with s**t /silt etc (Pics below)

You can see from the below picture the contacts on the inside of the lid of the motor that were literally buried under filth, and the two 'prongs' of the other contacts are filthy also...

After 15 minutes of cleaning with WD40 and a small wire brush i managed to clean most of it out as per the below pics...

I repacked with grease etc, and rebuilt the unit, having no replacement seal/gasket for it - once clipped back together i smeared a thick line of vaseline around the join to stop the water getting back in. I had contacted Renault and they have informed me that you cannot buy the seals as a separate item :(
I rebuilt the car and - BINGO! All working perfectly again!
So thanks to other users in various threads and other resources on the net i saved myself circa £300! and it only took me a little over 1 hour to complete (including making a brew) ;)
I hope this information will help someone else one day as i believe its a pretty common fault on various Renaults not just Lagunas!
Cheers
Dave :)
